Pretoria and Tshwane call-outs

Pretoria Electrician
No Power? Call Pete.

Wiring that was perfectly good when the house was built is not built for what a family runs today. If the power is out, the board keeps dropping, or the geyser has taken the circuit with it, call Pete on 081 554 9231. Tell him where you are and he will get an electrician to you.

What is the house doing?

Old houses fail in patterns. If any of these sound familiar, say so when you call.

The main switch drops and the whole house goes

If the main switch drops rather than a single breaker, the fault could be almost anywhere on the property. Leave it down and call, rather than holding it up to see what happens.

The lights dim when the geyser or the kettle starts

That usually means the circuit is carrying more than it should, or a connection is loose and heating up. Both are worth finding before something fails properly.

A plug point is warm to the touch

Warm is a warning rather than a quirk. Old two-pin and round-pin points, and any socket that feels hot, should be looked at rather than used until they have been.

The geyser is not heating and nothing has tripped

An element or a thermostat can fail without taking the power down. Tell us whether the water is completely cold or only lukewarm, because the two point at different parts.

What Pretoria calls us out for

⚡

Ageing Wiring and Rewiring

Faults in wiring that has been in the walls for decades, and a straight answer on what should be replaced rather than patched.

⚡

Geysers and Hot Water

Geyser circuits that trip the board, elements and thermostats that have failed, and hot water that stopped without warning.

⚡

Main Switches and DB Boards

Main switches that will not hold, breakers that keep dropping, and boards that buzz, smell hot or look discoloured.

⚡

Fault Finding on Intermittent Faults

Faults that only appear when the geyser, the kettle or the pool pump runs, and the tracing work that finds them.

⚡

Plugs, Lights and Switches

Warm sockets, dead plugs, flickering lights, and the old points that should have been replaced years ago.

⚡

Certificates of Compliance

Direction to the right qualified contractor when a COC is needed for a sale, a new lease or an insurance claim.

Where does it sit on the scale?

Slide to a number between 1 and 10. Ratings of 7 and above may move to the front of the queue for the priority fee.

A call-out fee of R750 applies to every call. An emergency, rated 7 or higher, is entitled to skip the work queue and be next in line if a fee of R1,500 is agreed to, or else the normal work queue applies. There is no charge for a quote.

10Somebody's dead... or could be. Nothing's exploded yet. Stop filling out forms and call emergency services immediately if there is danger to life.
9Nobody's dead yet, but the electrical system appears to be actively considering its options.
8The entire property has entered the Stone Age.
7The DB board has declared war on the household.
6Half the house has gone dark and the other half looks nervous.
5The important stuff has stopped working.
4Lights are flickering and acting suspicious.
3One plug has decided to retire early.
2Something does not seem right.
1General enquiry. Nobody panic.
Selected urgency rating: 7/10. Emergency queue

The call-out fee is payable whether or not you go ahead with the work, and we confirm it with you before anyone is dispatched. The priority fee is what pays the electrician to attend your job ahead of other work. We are not a 24 hour service, so if it is the middle of the night we will tell you when an electrician can reach you.

Where we work in Pretoria

Pretoria is spread out, and the drive is often the longest part of the job. These are the areas we are asked for most.

Pretoria East

Faerie Glen, Garsfontein, Moreleta Park, Wapadrand, Olympus and Constantia Park.

Old East and the Moot

Waterkloof, Brooklyn, Menlo Park, Queenswood and Villieria.

West and south

Danville, Silverton and Centurion.

If you are outside these areas, tell us where you are anyway. We will say straight away whether we can get someone to you.

Pretoria questions we get asked

The lights dim but nothing trips. Is that a problem?

Yes, have it looked at. Dimming when a big appliance starts usually means a loose connection or a circuit carrying too much, and neither settles down by itself.

Do old plug points really need replacing?

If they are the old round-pin or two-pin types, or if any plug or socket feels warm, yes. It is straightforward work, and it removes a genuine risk rather than a theoretical one.

The geyser is cold but nothing tripped

That points at the element or the thermostat rather than the circuit. Tell us whether the water is completely cold or only lukewarm, and how long it has been that way.

How soon can someone be here?

Pete answers the phone himself. Pretoria is a big area, so give him your suburb and he will tell you honestly what is realistic. We do not work 24 hours.

Power out in Pretoria right now?

Call Pete on 081 554 9231. Older houses tend to fail in the same few places, so tell him roughly how old the house is and what the board does when it trips. If you would rather type than talk, send a WhatsApp with your suburb and the same details, and an electrician is sent your way, usually within a few hours.
