Port Elizabeth, day and night

Port Elizabeth Electrician
No Power? Call Pete.

Port Elizabeth has a lot of solid older houses, and wiring that was fine when they were built is not always fine now. If the power is out, the board keeps dropping, or a tenant has no hot water, call Pete on 081 554 9231. Tell him what is happening and he will get an electrician to you.

Which of these fits?

Describe it as closely as you can. It saves time once someone is on site.

The power keeps dropping out

Not a clean outage. Lights dip, the fridge restarts, or half the house dies and comes back again. Faults like that are usually wiring or a loose connection.

One breaker will not stay up

Note which plugs and lights go with that breaker before you call. The electrician then tests one circuit instead of hunting through the whole house.

The house is old and nobody has checked the wiring

Houses built decades ago were wired for a fraction of what a modern family runs. If it has never been inspected, an intermittent fault is often the wiring itself.

The tenant has no power and I am not there

Say whether you are the tenant, the landlord or the managing agent, so the right person is told what was found rather than hearing it second hand.

What Port Elizabeth calls us out for

⚡

Older Wiring and Rewiring

Faults in wiring that has been in the walls for decades, and a straight answer on what should be replaced rather than patched.

⚡

Rentals and Body Corporate

Flats, townhouses and rental stock, including common property faults and after-hours tenant call-outs.

⚡

Power Failures and Fault Tracing

Complete outages, circuits that drop and come back, and the tracing work that finds the cause rather than the symptom.

⚡

Main Switches and DB Boards

Main switches that will not hold, breakers that keep dropping, and boards that buzz, smell hot or look discoloured.

⚡

Geysers and Hot Water

Geyser circuits that take the power down with them, and elements or thermostats that have failed.

⚡

Certificates of Compliance

Direction to the right qualified contractor when a COC is needed for a sale, a new lease or an insurance claim.

How bad is the situation?

Give it a score between 1 and 10. From 7 up you may skip the queue for the priority fee, and you choose whether to take it.

A call-out fee of R750 applies to every call. An emergency, rated 7 or higher, is entitled to skip the work queue and be next in line if a fee of R1,500 is agreed to, or else the normal work queue applies. There is no charge for a quote.

10Somebody's dead... or could be. Nothing's exploded yet. Stop filling out forms and call emergency services immediately if there is danger to life.
9Nobody's dead yet, but the electrical system appears to be actively considering its options.
8The entire property has entered the Stone Age.
7The DB board has declared war on the household.
6Half the house has gone dark and the other half looks nervous.
5The important stuff has stopped working.
4Lights are flickering and acting suspicious.
3One plug has decided to retire early.
2Something does not seem right.
1General enquiry. Nobody panic.
Selected urgency rating: 7/10. Emergency queue

The call-out fee is payable whether or not you go ahead with the work, and we confirm it with you before anyone is dispatched. The priority fee is what pays the electrician to attend your job ahead of other work. We are not a 24 hour service, so if it is the middle of the night we will tell you when an electrician can reach you.

Where we work in Port Elizabeth

The work runs along Cape Road and out through the older parts of the city. These are the areas we are asked for most.

Along Cape Road

Walmer, Lorraine, Framesby, Sunridge Park and Westering.

Central

Newton Park, Sidwell, Parsons Hill and North End.

Mill Park and the north

Mill Park, Glenhurd, Gelvan Park and Chatty.

If you are outside these areas, tell us where you are anyway. We will say straight away whether we can get someone to you.

Port Elizabeth questions we get asked

Half the house works and half does not. Why?

A dead section usually means one circuit has dropped rather than the supply. Check the board for the breaker that is down, and tell us which rooms it covers. If everything is dead, that is a different fault altogether.

Do you handle rentals?

Yes. Flats, townhouses and managed complexes. Say whether you are the tenant, the landlord or the managing agent, so the right person is told what was found.

The wiring is old. Does it all have to be replaced?

Not necessarily, and nobody should say otherwise without looking at it. You will be told what is genuinely unsafe, what is dated but still serviceable, and what can wait.

How soon can someone be here?

Pete answers the phone himself. Give him your area and he will tell you honestly how soon an electrician can reach you. We do not work 24 hours.
