No Power?
Call Pete!

If the power is off, the board will not stay up, or a geyser has taken the house down with it, call Pete on 081 554 9231. Tell him what has happened and he will get an electrician to you.

What has gone wrong at the property?

Pick the one that sounds closest. It helps Pete work out what is likely to be wrong before he sends anyone.

The power is off and staying off

Check whether the neighbours are out as well. If it is only your property, the fault is on your side of the meter and it needs an electrician rather than the municipality.

The board trips the moment you reset it

Stop resetting it. Something on that circuit is faulty, and repeated attempts can damage whatever is plugged in and turn a small fault into an expensive one.

Something smells hot, or a plug is sparking

Switch that circuit off at the board if you can reach it safely and leave it off. Heat, smoke and a burning smell are the warnings that arrive before the fire, not after it.

The geyser has taken the power with it

A failed element or thermostat is one of the most common reasons a house loses power after a hot water problem. Tell Pete when the water went cold as well as when the power went off.

How urgent is it, right now?

Rate the problem from 1 to 10. If it is a genuine emergency, from 7 up, you may pay the priority fee to jump the queue.

A call-out fee of R750 applies to every call. An emergency, rated 7 or higher, is entitled to skip the work queue and be next in line if a fee of R1,500 is agreed to, or else the normal work queue applies. There is no charge for a quote.

10Somebody's dead... or could be. Nothing's exploded yet. Stop filling out forms and call emergency services immediately if there is danger to life.
9Nobody's dead yet, but the electrical system appears to be actively considering its options.
8The entire property has entered the Stone Age.
7The DB board has declared war on the household.
6Half the house has gone dark and the other half looks nervous.
5The important stuff has stopped working.
4Lights are flickering and acting suspicious.
3One plug has decided to retire early.
2Something does not seem right.
1General enquiry. Nobody panic.
Selected urgency rating: 7/10. Emergency queue

The call-out fee is payable whether or not you go ahead with the work, and we confirm it with you before anyone is dispatched. The priority fee is what pays the electrician to attend your job ahead of other work. We are not a 24 hour service, so if it is the middle of the night we will tell you when an electrician can reach you.

Where we work in Cape Town

Cape Town is a wide city, and how quickly someone reaches you depends on which side of it you are on. These are the areas we are asked for most.

Southern Suburbs

Claremont, Rondebosch, Plumstead and Bergvliet.

Cape Flats

Athlone, Mitchells Plain and Retreat.

Northern Suburbs

Maitland, Bellville and Durbanville.

Blouberg and the coast

Bloubergstrand, Table View and Milnerton.

Helderberg

Somerset West and the towns around it.

If you are outside these areas, tell us where you are anyway. We will say straight away whether we can get someone to you.

Cape Town questions we get asked

How soon can someone be here?

Pete answers the phone himself. Tell him your suburb and what is happening, and he will tell you honestly how soon an electrician can reach you. We do not work 24 hours, so the time he gives you will be realistic.

What should I do while I wait?

If there is smoke, sparking or a burning smell, switch the main switch off at the board if you can reach it safely, and leave it off. Do not throw water on anything electrical. If anyone is in danger, call the emergency services first.

My geyser has tripped the power. Is that an electrician job?

Yes. A failed element or thermostat is one of the most common reasons a geyser circuit will not stay on, and it needs an electrician rather than a plumber.

Do you work on solar and inverter systems?

Yes. When an inverter stops feeding the house, the batteries will not charge, or the changeover no longer switches over, that is electrical fault finding and not panel cleaning.
